The boys sure got a big win tonight! Beating Wake should certainly help their tourney chances. As I watched the game I realized I don't mind how aggressive and hot headed the Hokies sometimes play. I believe it was Thompson who threw an unnecessary elbow as he was talking to the ref. It's this kind of passion though that allows them to claw back from deficits and be able to win so many close games. The team may not be as disciplined as most but the raw athletic talent they have allows them to get that W.
Towards the end of the game the refs made a terribly wrong call when they called a foul on one of the Hokies when there was absolutely no contact. The refs then went and spent a minute looking at the replay, presumably to make sure the Wake player wasn't taking a 3. When they watch the video and see they completely botched the call, what is going through their minds. If I were them I would want to correct my mistake and give the Hokies the ball since time had been stopped anyway. It's gotta be embarrassing. Since the refs gave Delaney a 3 pointer when his toe was on the line, I figured everything was just evening out.
If you've never had a sandwich from Jetties you really need to give it a try. The nobadeer is absolutely incredible. After being in the office until 7 I lost my desire to prepare food for myself, so made the 2 min trek to Jetties across the ice and snow to order me some delicious food. Love it! Be warned, it is a little pricey, but worth the money every once in awhile.

Olympics
As I was watching the Olympics the other night the commentators made an interesting point that is so very true. Almost every event in the Winter Olympics requires the competitor to be a daredevil. Each year each of the events becomes more ridiculous. It's all about speed, height, and who has the least fear. If you aren't willing to risk your life then you won't be the best. Now that's what I call dedication! Shoot, the luge participants were complaining that they couldn't go as fast now that the track has been adjusted. How could anyone not want to see the human limits tested?
Well, I have answer for this last question I posed. As I was perusing the Georgetown Voice (I don't know why I continue to read that liberal b.s.) I happened upon an article written by one Keenan Timko. The kid admits to having never participated in any of the Olympic sports, yet has no interest in paying any attention to the Olympics. He's too worried about his favorite NBC shows being interrupted. I'll give him credit though, his point is to bash Ralph Lauren and he has a good argument. It's his ignorance though that kills me. To say that no one is paying attention to the Olympics, or at least no one he knows. Who do you hang out with? Are you a freaking hermit living in the woods? To top it off, he claims the Winter Olympic sports are for the elite. Are you serious? Most people that live somewhat near ski resorts go skiing. These kids are from big time ski resort areas who grow up on the mountains. It is because of their talent that a lot of them go to special private schools. Take the skiers for example. A lot of the Olympic hopefuls attend ski schools so that they can ski on the best slopes and chase their dreams while also earning an education. It's just how the system works in America.
What it comes down to is lack of research. Sure, you can express your opinion, but do some research first and get your facts straight. You're just embarrassing yourself and look like a fool.

Mourning Over
So tomorrow will be a week since my beloved Peyton Manning and the Colts failed to win the Super Bowl. Strange thing is, I think this is the quickest I've recovered from them being knocked out of the play-offs. You would think that since they made it all the way to the big game before losing that it would be even harder to get over. Maybe I finally managed to not totally invest myself emotionally in their season. It was just weird watching the game and not ever feeling confident that they would win. It's like I expected them to lose, like I already knew what the outcome would be. Even when they had the lead I never felt comfortable. O well. Spring football is fast approaching and we'll get to see the new Hokies in action.
I watched bits and pieces of the Duke v UNC game this past week and kept thinking about how talented UNC is. Sure, they are too young and immature to meet expectations, but they should be winning more games. It all comes down to lack of leadership and negative momentum, both of which they are suffering from. The good news? They remind me of Georgetown a year ago. The Hoyas collapsed the last part of the season even though they had plenty of talent. It was the lack of chemistry, no true leaders, and negative momentum that did them in. This year is a different story, and they are playing like a legit final four contender. Just stay positive UNC.
In keeping with the complaining about snow, how is it that it's snowing in the Deep South? Seriously, snow in Charleston? Yikes.

Snowmageddon!
I thought I left New England and all of its snow 6 years ago when I came to Washington, DC. Apparently it has finally found me. We officially have set a new all-time record for seasonal snowfall. The scary thing? Winter isn't over yet.
I was lucky enough to have left town for the holidays (is "holidays" politically correct) by the time the Dec storm hit. Ironically enough, I was in New England when the record snowstorm struck a few days ago. No snow fell while I was at Yale, and amazingly enough I was able to get back into DC late, late Sat night on the train. Amtrak is doing something right! Now I'm hunkered down in my apartment while the 3rd blizzard rages. I did venture over to campus to workout and even enjoyed my treadmill run (first time ever). Some unofficial storm totals for near me, 22", 25.5", and 12". Yikes! I think Bonsey and I were the only ones in McDonough working today. Guess it helps when you can walk to work.
Any Scrubs fans? Watch Superbad and you'll spot Cole early in the movie. He gets pissed at Evan for just standing around during the P.E. soccer game.

Student No More!
Trying my best to sound cliche, I have reached the end of an era. No longer enrolled in college, no more NCAA eligibility to use, I've lost my best allies in fending off "growing up". Now that I have less free time to devote to anything and everything that can be deemed "unproductive and useless", like blogging, I'm doing just that.
Let's go ahead and be straight forward, everything I have to say is not official and everyone should use caution before taking me seriously. With that in mind, welcome to my blog!
My life now is being dictated by my desire to continue racing on the track until I am finally satisfied with myself. The plan is to race indoors and a little outdoors, but not a full season. I'm looking to make the jump to olympic distance triathlons so am biking and swimming on the side. The hope is to earn my elite status as a triathlete by the end of 2010 so that I'll be ready to chase my Olympic dreams as we approach London 2012. It's been interesting living day by day so far with so much of my near future up in the air. Should make for an entertaining spring and summer.
